Jan Robijns (1948) has been living in Amsterdam since 1967. He studied to be an teacher at the Rietveld Academy. After having taught art for 3 years, he decided to venture into the music world, and moved to New York as a pianist for an American theatre company. After a year and a half, he moved back to Amsterdam and established himself as a musician in the Netherlands. During the 80's and 90's, Jan played with various groups, such as Huub van der Lubbe(De Dijk) and Arthur Ebeling. He also played with The Izzies, the band that accompanied Ischa Meyer and composed music for Childrens and TV serials. In the last years Jan performed in the band accompanying Freek de Jonge and inn 2004 completed a successful tour with Huub van der Lubbe and Bart de Ruiter, more popularly known as Concordia. After a period of about 30 years, Jan went back to art. In 2005 he made a series of ink drawings, with Amsterdam as the source of inspiration, amongst which of course his much beloved area, the Jordaan. Jan Robijns lives a stones throw away from the gallery, where 6 beautiful ink sketches of the above mentioned series can be purchased.
