Zaira and Bustart work, love and live together for over 7 years. They both enjoy travelling, but not for the good weather, the sunshine or the beach! Instead, they are always looking out for good spots to paint and express themselves.
Amsterdam has always been a magnet for the two artists; the whole flair of the city is unique. So, after traveling to Amsterdam every year, both decided to move to their favorite town in the beginning of 2011. Right now Zaira & Bustart are the key artists giving the streets of Amsterdam an artistic look.
In the last year Zaira and Bustart worked almost every day in the streets of Amsterdam. Since living in Amsterdam, the couple is the most productive street artists in the city. From the 150 artworks they have created over the last year, approximately 50 can still be seen in the city of Amsterdam. The largest of them measures 7 x 8 meters.
The apartment of the artist resembles a factory. Every room is filled with art tools, stencils and canvasses in progress. Most of the time one of them is painting in the studio the other is cutting stencils in the living room. The walls are covered with freshly completed drying artworks. The smell is a mix of aerosol, ink and lacquer.
During the exhibition in the GO Gallery, the couple will recycle all the spray cans that they used for their exhibited artworks, into bird houses and put them up in the trees in Amsterdam.
One of the biggest inspirations for their artworks comes from our consumer society, particularly the influence from the USA. Pop art and the City of Amsterdam have a big influence on the artists as well!
For Zaira and Bustart Street art isn’t just a hobby, it is their love and passion!
The Swiss couple’s artworks can also be admired in Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, Zürich, Basel, Bristol, Dubai and other places.
