The African bush elephant (Loxodanta Africana) and the African forest elephant (Loxodanta cyclotis) are both listed as vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List since 2004.

A characteristic feature of most vultures is their habit of feeding on cadavers. Their strong gastric juices can eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses, which means that vultures play an important role in the ecosystem and wildlife.

So many abstract details in oil paint make this beautiful painting by Paul Wright. Wright was also inspired by the photos of wildlife photographer Harry Skeggs for the exhibition “Wild & Free”. (Until 24th October)
Paul Wright: “As a painter I want to confront the subject, and for the subject to confront me. My process allows for movement and a certain ambiguity of personality, and I see all of this in the way Harry often captures his subjects.
The great photographer Robert Capa once said that ‘if your photograph isn’t good enough you aren’t close enough’.
This rings true in the work of all great wildlife photographers, and Harry is no exception. My initial reaction to his photographs is often that he is alarmingly close to what are often highly unpredictable and dangerous animals. And with this brings the feeling of excitement and danger which infuses them with so much energy and life.

I am fortunate to own a very large version of ‘Tooth & Nail’ and am confronted by it every time I walk down the stairs at home. I thought of working from this as it is so familiar to me, however I chose Leonidas as the image to work from as it is exactly how I would want a subject to confront me as an artist, it is direct and compelling and of course menacingly beautiful”.

Not much is known about the artist from The Hague who makes his art works on the streets under the name @Angst (Fear).
